During its release in 2014, Solar Flare was promoted alongside Doritos Loaded. Solar Flare is one of the first much earlier Franchise Exclusive flavors before the Franchise Exclusive flavors became a prominent staple of Mountain Dew's lineup in recent times. After the promotion ended, Solar Flare was still available until early 2017 while supplies lasted. The promotion ended on November 22nd, 2016. When you buy Solar Flare from any participating locations in The Philippines, you could win various prizes such as a new smartphone, a drone, or a bicycle. On September 28th, 2016, Solar Flare was released for a limited time at participating Filipino 7-Eleven store locations with soda fountains. Its tagline was "NEW! DEW with a Blast of Tropical Punch only at 7-Eleven." Solar Flare became discontinued in Canada a year later as it became more sporadic to find in the United States in 2015. In August 2015, Solar Flare was introduced later in Canadian 7-Eleven soda fountains, alongside the Slurpee version. In some cases, stores received newer/replacement logo labels for their soda fountains.Īs most of the 7-Eleven locations have pulled the tropical punch flavor, there are only a very select few locations still carrying the flavor as recently as June 2023. As of May 2018, Solar Flare was still carried at the time and sold at some 7-Eleven convenience store locations in the United States due to good sales. At roughly the same time, all Canadian 7-Eleven convenience store locations phased out the tropical punch flavor in both soda and Slurpee formats. Reports surfaced in 2015 that Solar Flare would soon get pulled from 7-Eleven stores, and the availability of the flavor became sporadic within the United States.
In May 2014, the flavor was first exclusively released to 7-Eleven convenience stores in the United States for the summer of that year, marking the beginning of Solar Flare released in 7-Eleven locations as a permanent flavor in soda fountains and in Slurpee form.
On April 22nd, 2014, PepsiCo filed a trademark for Solar Flare titled "MTN DEW SOLAR FLARE." Its tagline is " DEW with a Blast of Tropical Punch." History Solar Flare is a Tropical Punch flavor of Mountain Dew and has a red-orange look, having an identical tasting flavor and color to that of Southern Shock. 2.1 (2015 - Present) Sporadic availability.
